By the nature of developmental disabilities, caregivers of children with developmental disabilities are required to systematically keep track of data on behaviors and treatments of children.

In this work, we proposed Medihand, a prototype application for Personal Health Records (PHR) management system with which caregivers could record data of children they support. Also, we performed the usability test by interviewing six caregivers and three therapists.

The results showed that it is necessary to consider five design elements when creating PHR managing applications for children with developmental disabilities: (1) integrating behavioral and treatment data in calendars to facilitate scheduling, (2) patterning collected data, (3) promoting data sharing among other caregivers, (4) providing detailed and customized methods of recording, and (5) reflecting the users’ daily routine.

We also provide implications for future works, designing PHR sharing platforms for children with developmental disabilities.
